Checklist for future parents: Non-obvious things that will be needed in the first months of the baby’s life

We know that the birth of a baby is the most joyful, but also the most exciting moment in the life of parents. We assure you that it is normal to worry about how to properly care for your newborn baby. Only over time will you understand what suits you and your baby and what doesn’t quite suit you, and you will develop your own life hacks.

In the meantime, you are just preparing for the birth of your baby, YokoSun has prepared a list of things that you will need in the first months of life. You've probably already purchased a crib, stroller, baby carrier, bathtub, clothes, bottles and pacifiers or added them to your shopping checklist. Therefore, let’s talk about non-obvious means that it is better to prepare in advance and even take to the maternity hospital, and we will give useful tips on their use.

1. Diapers

The most obvious on our non-obvious list, but there are nuances here. You may need diapers in the maternity hospital, so it is better to buy them in advance. However, stocking up and preparing several packs for future use at once is a bad idea. The diapers may not fit your baby right away or literally three weeks later, when he has time to grow up.

The best option is to buy one packagediapers in size 1 / NB (for newborns). A few pieces (about five) can be taken to the maternity hospital.

Diapers should be breathable, but also highly absorbent. Look for quality control marks on the packaging - they guarantee that the diapers meet international standards and are safe for the baby. For example, on YokoSun diapers you will find the ISO 9001 quality control mark. This means that they are safe for the baby, and the production meets international requirements. YokoSun diapers are hypoallergenic and made using Japanese absorbent, which reliably protects against leaks, but does not cause diaper rash due to breathable materials. And the baby is comfortable in them - the shape of the diapers is created in such a way that they do not hinder movement.

2. Disposable diapers

Many parents prefer disposable diapers. They do not need to be washed, making them more hygienic. It is better to take diapers (about 10 pieces) to the maternity hospital: not only the baby, but also the mother may need them.

After discharge, the diapers will be useful for swaddling. At home, it is more convenient to use diapers with adhesive tape - they will not move and form wrinkles under an active baby. YokoSun diapers contain the same effective Japanese absorbent, like brand diapers, and their bottom layer is made of material that does not allow moisture to pass through. There are just 10 pieces in the package, which is convenient to take with you. Diapers can help you out in the car, in the stroller, in the clinic, in short, in any situation outside the home.

3. Napkins

Unlike diapers, you can safely stock up on wipes, both wet and dry. Wet ones are necessary when changing, so it is convenient to always leave the packaging on the changing table. During a walk or trip, wet wipes are also indispensable. The composition should not contain alcohol, fragrances or sticky impregnations so as not to cause irritation to the baby’s skin. YokoSun baby wipes are available in two formats: 120 pieces (for home) and 64 pieces (for mom's bag). They are specially designed to cleanse baby's skin and care for it at the same time.

Paper napkins are especially useful during feeding, and just in everyday life. YokoSun baby wipes are made from cellulose and are fragrance-free, leave no lint on the skin and are gentle on the skin due to their silky texture.

4. Baby thermometer

A thermometer can come in handy at the most unexpected moment, so it’s worth purchasing it before the baby is born. It is better if it is electronic - this is a safer option. There are several types of thermometers, including non-contact ones. True, you need to figure out how they work and how to measure the baby’s temperature in advance.

5. Lanolin

Nipple cream with special purified lanolin for nursing women should be taken with you to the maternity hospital, and also used after discharge. It promotes the healing of cracks; the cream does not need to be washed off before feeding. For nursing mothers who experience pain due to the consequences of feeding, it is literally irreplaceable. Lanolin can also be used on lips, dry skin on hands and heels, or even on scratches.

6. Breast pads and nursing garments

Some mothers need breast pads already in the later stages of pregnancy. When the feeding period begins, you can’t do without them at all: milk begins to flow from one breast while you feed the baby with the other. However, some women do not face such problems at all - everything is individual. Therefore, it is better to purchase one package of inserts and take several pieces to the maternity hospital.

You can choose inserts by analogy with diapers: they should be breathable and absorbent. InYokoSun's earbuds use Japanese gel absorbent that absorbs up to 120 ml without leaking, the outer layer is made of breathable and waterproof material. There is adhesive tape on the outside of the pads so they are securely attached to the bra. In addition, each insert has individual packaging.

We described in detail how to use breast pads in thisarticle.

From the first days after giving birth, the mother will need nursing underwear. It differs from the usual one primarily in its greater elasticity. It is better to purchase it in advance and one size larger than before the birth. It is better to have several pieces at once (from three), give preference to natural fabrics, for example, those containing cotton.

7. Children's dishwashing detergents

You’ve definitely thought about feeding bottles in advance (we recommend immediately purchasing them with a volume of 120 and 250 milliliters), but you might have forgotten about baby dishwashing detergents. If you have a dishwasher at home, take care of special tablets that should not contain phosphates and chlorine. YokoSun phosphate-free dishwasher tablets do not contain aggressive chemical elements and are suitable for washing children's dishes.

If you don’t have a dishwasher, take care of a bottle brush. The rule for selecting a dishwasher is the same: it should not contain aggressive surfactants. YokoSungels not only have a gentle composition, but are hypoallergenic, easily cope with dirt and are economical to use.

8. Detergents for washing children's clothes

Children's clothing also requires special care. Experts recommend using gels with an environmentally friendly composition, ones that will not cause irritation or allergic reactions. At the same time, the product must be effective: you won’t have to wash anything from children’s clothes.

The YokoSun brand produces a whole line of products suitable for caring for children’s clothes from birth - washing gel, liquid and dry bleach with express effect, conditioner for children’s clothes. The products do not contain chlorine, dyes or phosphates, and cope even with stubborn stains.
