Many young parents at some point wonder: how to properly put a diaper on their baby? We understand that, most likely, you are worried about how not to harm your child and make him feel comfortable. This anxiety is normal and understandable: after all, a lot is new for both the child and the parents.
Although actually putting a diaper on a child is much easier than it might seem. In this article we will tell you how to put on and when to change a diaper, and also look at some common mistakes.
Where to start?
YokoSun - famous in Russia and the CIS is a brand that produces diapers using Japanese technologies. Therefore, we can confidently say that the success of using diapers depends on what products you choose. It is important that the diaper is suitable for the baby in size and shape, is breathable and hypoallergenic, absorbs well and does not allow leaks.
These qualities of diapers will ensure the baby’s comfort, protection of his skin from irritation and peace of mind for parents. We have already told you how to choose the right diaper for your child in this articlearticle.
In addition to diapers, you will also need wet wipes - it is better if they are always next to the changing table. There are also some nuances here. First of all, you should pay attention to safety - napkins should not cause allergies or irritation. It is better if the composition of the absorbent lotion consists almost entirely of purified water. For example, YokoSun baby wipes are soaked in lotion, Made from 99% purified water and free of fragrances and alcohol. They can even be used on irritated skin.
If you don’t have a changing table, you will also need disposable diapers. Only after a year does the child begin to learn to control the process of bowel movements, so unpleasant surprises can happen when you decide to change the diaper. This is where diapers come in handy. They should also be safe and absorbent, and most importantly, have adhesive tape for fixing on different surfaces. Otherwise the diaper will slide off. Size is also important. The larger the baby, the larger size diaper you need. So, YokoSun diapers are available in two sizes 50x50 or 60x90.
As prescribed by your therapist, you may need diaper powder or cream. We will return to these means in more detail.
How to put on a diaper?
Now that everything is ready, you can start:
-
Put the baby in the diaper and remove the diaper from the package.
-
It is easy to understand that you are looking at the front side of the diaper - on the sides of the strap you will notice adhesive Velcro fasteners. They are attached precisely to the front side of the product. Peel them off and unfold the diaper, straightening the sides.
-
Gently lift your baby's bottom by gently placing your palm under your hips. You should not pull a child by the feet; it may be unsafe.
-
Place the open diaper under your butt, so that when fastened, the front side of the product is facing you.
-
Place the front part of the diaper on the baby's stomach, thus covering the groin area. The elastic bands of the diaper should not reach the navel. If the baby's umbilical wound has not yet healed, it is better to bend the upper part of the elastic band.
-
Fasten the Velcro on both sides symmetrically so that they do not touch the skin. It is important that the elastic bands of the diaper do not squeeze the tummy, but fit tightly to the back - this way you will avoid chafing and leaks. Making sure there is enough tension is simple: after fastening, your finger should fit between your tummy and the diaper.
When you start to put on the diaper, the baby may cry. To begin with, it is worth excluding objective factors of such behavior, such as illness or discomfort due to careless actions. Sometimes children cry because they simply feel cold - infants’ thermoregulation is more complicated. Therefore, many parents warm up the room a little before starting to change the diaper.
When and how to change a diaper?
YokoSun diapers, due to the Japanese absorbent in their composition, can provide up to 12 hours of dryness and comfort. However, we recommend changing the diaper every 3-4 hours or when it is full. Each product has a special moisture indicator that will help you understand that the diaper is full - these are yellow stripes that are located between the baby’s legs. When it's time to change the diaper, the stripes will change color to blue.
The diaper also needs to be changed immediately after the child has passed the baby. Otherwise, there is a high risk of developing infections.
To change a diaper:
-
Place the baby on the swaddle.
-
Remove a dirty diaper by peeling off the sticky fasteners on the sides.
-
Roll it up with the dirty side inward. YokoSun diapers have a recycling tape to help you roll the diaper securely after use.
-
Now you need to cleanse the baby's skin. It is better to wash the baby, but if this is not possible, use wet wipes. Carefully turn the baby onto his side, wipe the legs and crotch. Girls need to be washed using movements from the navel to the butt, but not vice versa.
-
If you notice irritation on your butt, use a special cream. If diaper rash occurs, you can use powder.
-
Allow the products to be absorbed and the baby’s skin to rest by leaving him without a diaper on the diaper for 10-15 minutes.
-
Put on a diaper.
What is better not to do?
-
Do not use cream and powder just like that, without a doctor’s advice. A properly selected breathable diaper, as well as its timely change, will help protect your baby from diaper rash.
-
Do not overheat your child. This will also lead to diaper rash. If the room is hot, the baby will start to sweat.
-
Wash your baby regularly, preferably without using soap, which dries out the skin.
-
Choose a diaper that suits your child. If over time it begins to leak, then it’s time to change to a larger size.
Childcare does have its nuances, and each child is unique. Over time, parents learn to take into account the characteristics of their child, they develop their own life hacks.
But there is universal advice! Give your children care and attention, and trust proven products!
